Mr Sadiq Olatunji, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Oyo State has promised to pay N50,000 as minimum wage to workers if elected.

He made the pledge on Tuesday during the launch of his campaign at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) secretariat, Oke-Ado in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the ceremony was witnessed by Mr Bashiru Apapa, LP National Vice-Chairman.

Olatunji said the LP administration was poised to alleviate the sufferings of workers in the state, saying ‘they deserved to be properly remunerated.’

“Workers are not well remunerated in spite of their commitment to the development of the state. You all know that LP is for workers and we won’t let them down.

“We are going to pay minimum wage of N50,000. We will also ensure that they enjoy all other benefits including their entitlements,” he said.

He said that part of his programmes if elected is free education at the primary and secondary school levels.

The LP governorship candidate promised to improve the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through investment in agriculture.

Olatunji said LP is not a party of money bags who display wealth during campaigns to buy people’s conscience.

“We keep engaging our people everyday on the need to return governance to the people and they have promised to vote massively for our party.

”Our story in LP to other political parties can be likened to that of David versus Goliath. Many never thought that David could defeat Goliath considering their status and strength. LP will surprise them like David,” he said.

Apapa in his remarks, said the party remained the only one that can alleviate the sufferings of the people as well as implement peoples-oriented programmes.

He said the LP is the party to beat, saying the party would form the next government in the state.

Oltunji also visited the Olubadan palace to seek royal blessing.
