Turkish giants Galatasaray is one of three clubs in danger of receiving sanctions from European football governing body UEFA due to throwing of flares onto the pitch by their fans during Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League.

Galatasaray fans had thrown flares onto the Emirates Stadium pitch soon after their club conceded a second goal in a Group D encounter at Arsenal, an action which saw the match suspended for a few minutes.

The match however resumed, after stand-in captain Wesley Sneijder and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera had implored on fans to desist. Galatasaray went on to lose the match 4-1 with Burak Yilmaz scoring Gala’s consolation goal after Danny Welbeck’s hattrick and Alexis Sanchez’s goal for Arsenal.

Proceedings have also been opened by UEFA against German club Borussia Dortmund during the other Group D match at Anderlecht as well as against Swiss champions FC Basel in the Group B match at home to Liverpool.

The fate of the three clubs will be decided by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on October 16.
