Unidentified gunmen have abducted Freddy Ndiagbara, a staff of the Rivers State Government House Port Harcourt.

Mr. Ndiagbara (popularly called Freddie), works with the Government House Press Unit. He was kidnapped saturday at a ward rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kaani 1 (his community), in Khana Local Government Area of the State.

He is a trained Journalist and had worked in Tribune some years back.He is a graduate of the University of Benin.

His abductors stormed the venue of the rally in a Toyota vehicle, shot sporadically into the air and whisked him away in a waiting car to an unknown destination.

Though details of the kidnap were sketchy as at press time, a source there said the incident occurred when the organisers of the rally were setting up the podium and Public Address System (PAS).

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has confirmed the incident.

He said that Police had intensified efforts to rescue him safely and apprehend the suspects.

In a similar development, gunmen have also kidnapped Chief Collins Adikoko, a Deputy Paramount Ruler in Ikeinghenbiri, a coastal settlement in the creeks of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

Three gunmen stormed his premises about 2 a.m. on Saturday and whisked him away.

“They arrived at the residence of the traditional ruler in the early hours of Saturday, about 2.a.m.

“They were three in number that we saw clearly; two were wearing the uniforms of Civil Defence Corps and one was wearing the reflective jackets used by youth vigilante.

“They fired several warning shots and abducted the monarch, then escaped in a waiting speedboat anchored in the nearby waterside to an unknown destination,’’ the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Asinim Butwat, who confirmed the incident, said that the police had launched a manhunt for the gunmen in a bid to rescue the monarch.
