A hungry Nigerian blue collar worker has resorted to stealing to feed himself.

Mohammed Abdullahi, 22 years old, stole his neighbours plywood on 9 April and sold it for N15,000 in Karu Village, Abuja.

Now, he is facing trial at the Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court 2 in Abuja, charged with theft.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Francis Udofia, told the court that one Mr Gabriel Haruna of same address with the accused reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on April 11.

Udofia said that on April 9, the complainant kept a 2X3inche plywood valued at N15,000 in his neighbour’s compound.

He said the accused went to the compound and stole it, adding that during police investigation, the accused admitted that he stole it and sold it and used the money to buy food.

He aded that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Bashir Alkali, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Alkali adjourned the case until May 20 for further hearing. (NAN)
