The Rivers state Government has described the recent attacks the former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi made against the administration of his successor, Nyesom Wike,on Saturday,as not only offensive but ladened with the frustration of a drowning man.

A statement posted last night on Facebook by Opunabu Inko-Tariah,the Special Adviser to Governor Wike,on Media and Publicity said Amaechi’s address to his supporters, was an offensive reminder of the dark days of the state under Amaechi’s watch.

“His statements were crassly empty, lacking in substance and inspired by frustration and so the Governor Nyesom Wike led government will not allow Rivers people to be dragged into the drowning stream which Amaechi has plunged both himself and his supporters into.”

The state government took exception that the former governor and his supporters broke the Environmental Sanitation law.”First of all, Rotimi Amaechi visiting the state during sanitation hours in disobedience to state laws and directive on restriction of movement is a demonstration of an unfortunate example which he is showing his supporters who joined him to break the Laws of the State, thus reminding everyone that both him and his party in the state have no respect for Law and order.”

He said it was irresponsible for Amaechi to declare he would not appear before the Justice Omereji led Judicial Commission of enquiry which is a creation of both Law and Judgement of Court.

Amaechi’s stance, he said, was an open demonstration of Amaechi’s continuous contempt and affront on the rule of Law and the judiciary, “as it further reveals that he still holds on to self help giving his only legacy of one who shut down our Judicial system as Governor for almost three years with impunity”.

He said Amaechi had gone to Court to unsuccessfully stop his probe yet the same Court that gave judgement upholding the setting up of the Commission is the same which he has boasted though contemptuously to disobey and his APC party in the state sees nothing wrong with it. Maybe he thought the court would have voided the Commission when he was disappointed beyond measure.

The state government urge him to go clear his name from the long list of corruption allegations hanging on his neck just as former Governor Peter Odili did before Justice Kayode Eso Panel, which Amaechi set up, as media trial will not stop him from facing Justice.

As for corruption allegations leveled against Governor Nyesom, the statement challenged Amaechi to provide the strictest proof of them all as it is public knowledge that Wike in all his public service has always left a clean slate with lasting impact.

Inko-Tariah dismissed Amaechi’s allegations as not only puerile and risible, but aimed at unsuccessfully distracting the well informed public who need no soothsayer to tell them how corrupt and reckless Amaechi was as Governor which difference they now see as the state is now witnessing true governance and rule of Law in action under Governor Nyesom Wike.

He said Governor Wike has no skeleton in his cupboard to unearth.
