Moscow demands money from Turkey over shot jet

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov said on Wednesday that Turkey should pay compensation for shooting down a Russian military plane near the Turkish-Syrian border last month, the RIA news agency reported.

Meshkov said Turkey should also guarantee that a similar incident will not happen in future.

This is the latest development in the frosty relationship between the two countries after Turkey shot down the jet last month for breaching the country’s air space and ignoring warning. One Russian pilot died in the incident.

Russia in anger had imposed trade sanctions on Turkey and followed up with accusations that Turkey was buying crude oil being sold in the black market by the Islamic state.
