It was a sad day for Nigeria’s football as the home based Super Eagles slumped to a 0-1 defeat in the hands of the Syli Nationale of Guinea ,  and got themselves eliminated in the 2016 African Nations Championship  in Rwanda.

Nigeria’s Home based  Super Eagles led the Group C before the final group match on Tuesday, with four points. Tunisia and Guinea on their tail had two points each. The team knew what was at stake: a draw at the worse or an outright win.

But the  Eagles just failed to meet Coach Sunday Oliseh’s expectations when they were beaten
0-1 by the Guineans  at the Rubavu Stadium Tuesday evening.

A 44th minute goal from Ibrahim Sory Sankhon sent  the Eagles out of the competition they had been favoured to win by football pundits.

The Eagles could not stop the Guineans from running away with the lone goal victory and securing three points to make five points at the end of the first round of the championship.

Guinea now came second  in the group behind Tunisia, who hammered Niger 5-0 to
top the group with five  points and a superior goal margin.

Nigeria were third on four points and Niger finished bottom with a point.
