Walcott scores the equaliser

Arsenal are now  second on the English Premier League table, after coming from behind to beat 10-man Leicester City 2-1 at the Emirates, with goals from Theo Walcott and returnee Danny Welbeck, who headed in the winner the last seconds of injury time.

Jamie Vardie had shot the leaders ahead with a penalty just before half-time break, after he was fouled by Laurent Koscielny.

On resumption of play, Leicester’s Danny Sampson, earned his second booking of the day, a red card, giving Arsenal a vital edge in the attack.

Arsenal kept pounding the Leicester defence until Walcott on the 71st minute found the net.

It was a stunning goal – coming from  a cross from  Hector Bellerin, magnificently guided into the path of Theo Walcott by Olivier Giroud. Walcott made no mistake in  side-footing the ball past Kasper Schmeichel and into the net.

The match was going to end 1-1 until the last minute of injury time, when Marcin Wasilewski for Leicester gave away a free kick, just outside of the box.  Mesut Ozil curled the set-piece onto the head of Danny  Welbeck, making his first appearance of the season, who nodded into the corner of the net.

The Emirates erupted. A lot of people believe that with the victory, Arsenal have now thrown the title race open.

Within 45 minutes, it was as if Leicester would leave the Emirate with their five point lead over Arsenal. But Arsenal have now pegged them to their 53 points, while they are now second with 51 points.

The second major match of the day will take place later at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester between City and Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are third with 48 points and City fourth with 47 points.
