Obasanjo and Buhari, Work of humorous imagination

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday 23 January, fired an open letter, entitled, “The Wat Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement” to President Muhammadu Nuhari, advising him not to seek re-election in 2019 as he has performed below every expectation. former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Tuesday, in a 13-page special press statement entitled,

Rather, he said Buhari should step back and join the league of the country’s former leaders whose “experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country.”

Why did Obasanjo write? He said Buhari’s government has been infected with “lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality. With such lice of general and specific poor performance and crying poverty with us, our fingers will not be dry of ‘blood’,” he added.

However, while the letter has generated mixed reactions from many quarters with many praising the initiative while others waved Obasanjo off as a pot calling the kettle black, not a few individuals have used it as a form of humour to cut the ice?

Oyinemi Nicholas Endeley, a humorous critic posted this imaginary dialogue in pidgin English:

“OBASANJO- Don’t run, go home and rest.

BUHARI- Talk that thing again make I slap this your worwor (ugly) face.

OBASANJO- You never slap your wife wey talk am, na me you wan slap? if you no respect me, at least respect my PhD, U primary school dropout.

ABA BOYS- Emeka, I don print the 13 pages letter, we go start from Aba road dey sell am this evening. BUSINESS DON COME.

DEFENDERS OF BUAHRI: Buhari has just created employment as Aba boys will make money from this.”

Jonathan: Amused by the letter?

Endeley posted former President Goodluck Jonathan’s photo with this caption: “Em wan laugh the two old yeye calamities. But em hold the laugh.

See this interpretation of Jonathan’s photo also by Emmanuel Emmanuel Udoh: “ Former President Goodluck Johnathan’s face after reading OBJ’s letter to Buhari.”
