The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi State says that 47 people lost their lives and 338 others injured in 66 road accidents in the first quarter of the year.

Mr Abdulrazak Najume, the Sector Commander of the corps, in the state disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Thursday.

He said that 66 road traffic accidents occurred in the state within the period under review.

“We recorded 28 road traffic crashes in January in which 20 people lost their lives and 144 others were seriously injured.

“Twenty-two road traffic crashes were recorded in February and 12 people lost their lives while 62 others were seriously injured.

“Also, there were 16 road traffic crashes in March, where 15 people died and 132 others were seriously injured,” Najume said.

The sector commander attributed the accidents to speeding as well as to careless driving by motorists and motorcyclists.

He, however, reiterated that the corps would not relent in its determination in sensitising road users on safe driving and the need to comply with traffic rules and regulations in the state.

“We will continue to carry out public enlightenment campaigns in motorparks, market squares and roads on the dangers and causes of road accidents,” he said.
